COUNCILMAN, CITY OF LONDON

I was elected in March 2017 to represent businesses and residents in the City of London Corporation and ensure the City remains the best place to live, work and do business.

JUSTICE OF THE PEACE (JP), STRATFORD MAGISTRATES COURT / THAMES MAGISTRATES COURT / WALTHAM FOREST MAGISTRATES COURT

My duties as a magistrate include sitting in the adult courts to:

  • deal with summary offences
  • decide if the charged should be remanded in custody or granted bail
  • hear criminal cases
    • listen to evidence
    • decide if someone is guilty
    • decide on punishments (fines, unpaid community work or prison)
  • refer cases to the Crown Court where a heavier sentence is necessary or the charges are very serious.

My work as a governor involved sharing my business expertise for the benefit of the school and, along with my colleagues on the board of governors, shaping the strategic direction of the college, determining its educational charter and ensuring its financial well-being. Additionally, I sat on the Finance and General Purposes and Remuneration Committee.

The association holds the annual Southwark Civic Awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to the borough of Southwark made by groups and individuals.
