Peckham Pride win National Cup 2017
The Peckham Pride Women’s team secured the National Basketball League (NBL) Womens National Cup following a dominating 57-22 victory against Team Solent Kestrels in the final.
Peckham Pride team captain Ladun Akako collected the Womens National Cup in front of a crowd of over 200 people at the University of Worcester Arena on Sunday 22 January. With an average age of just 17 years and 9 months, Peckham Pride are the youngest team in history to win the trophy.
Following the hard fought victory, Peckham Pride Coach Jackson Gibbons said: “I’m really pleased with the girls. They worked really hard for it. I think we beat a really good team”.
Prem Goyal, Patron of Peckham Pride, congratulated the team, stating: “I am extremely proud of the team’s achievements at the National Cup finals. They have well and truly put South London on the map as a place that excels in youth sporting achievement”.
